Perhaps I'm missing something, but it doesn't appear that the Biden administration has taken any steps to avert this moment. Is there context that I've missed?
As they shouldn't. They will stay out of it, and allow the parties involved time to come together, negotiate in good faith, and work out a contract beneficial to all. If all else fails, they MAY send in an arbitrator to assist in the process, but that is all.
Perhaps, but these aren't normal times. I guess we'll see if this was the correct choice. I'm fairly certain that UAW hasn't yet (and may not) endorse Biden.
hw, you are correct. These are NOT normal times. My Dad was an autoworker for 30 years, ending in the early 80's. I can remember a couple times he walked the picket line, and never once was there political interference of any kind. But also, the Big 3 rotated which company went on strike with each contractual cycle. They never all went out at the same time. Strange times indeed.
